Fenty Beauty by Rihanna Pro Filtr Soft Matte Foundation in 180

When the Fenty Beauty by Rihanna launched on September 8, I knew I wanted to try the foundation. The claims were really promising:

  • gives skin an instantly smooth, pore-diffused, shine-free finish that easily builds to medium to full coverage
  • resistant to sweat and humidity, and won’t clog pores so that wherever you are
  • longwearing, light-as-air texture is undetectable on skin

Shade 150, 180, 220

The Fenty Beauty by Rihanna Pro Filt'r Soft Matte Foundation in 180 ($34 / Php1950) would probably best fit people in the MAC NC20-25 range. It went quite light when I first applied it, then after applying makeup on my face, I realized that it oxidized a bit. It's still a tad too light on me, though.

The photo above was taken right after I applied makeup on my whole face. I set the foundation very lightly with my trusty Althea Petal Velvet Powder, then I applied bronzer to counter balance the lightness of the foundation.

LOOK AT HOW BEAUTIFUL IT LOOKED????? It photographs wonderfully, and looked like my skin has been through the soften/blur feature on Photoshop.

I have acne scars & pigmentation on the right side of my face (which you can't see in the photo, sorry), and the Fenty Foundation wasn't able to cover it up despite its claims that it has a medium-full coverage.

After 4 hours: skin looks rough, foundation is separating on the t-zone area, foundation is gone on the nose, settled on the sides of nose

I was so excited for this because almost all the reviews that I've watched on Youtube were all pretty positive. Buuuuut.. I guess those people have great skin? All went to hell a few hours later lol. I find the foundation very unforgiving for people who has a lot of texture on their skin. By the fourth hour, it clung on my acne scars making my skin look rough, which in turn, made me look old

I honestly have never hated a foundation this much until I tried this lol. Aside from clinging on the texture of my skin, it also clung on the sides of my nose. I've also noticed that the foundation was separating on my t-zone area... and!!! the foundation on my nose was gone by the end of the day, like ???? I've never had a foundation that did that ever

The primer didn't do a thing. NOT. A. THING. Blegh.

I tried it for the second time using a buffing brush, and while it did not apply streakily compared to when I used the RT Expert Face Brush, the same things happened. I was feeling ugly after an hour of wearing it, so I just had to remove it!!!

I didn't want to give up on it, so I tried it for the third time, and it went better! I applied a TON of moisturizer (Hello FAB Coconut Skin Smoothie Priming Moisturizer), then applied again with a damp RT sponge. I did not layer the foundation anymore, then just applied another foundation over my cheek-area (to hide the acne scars that the Fenty Foundation wasn't able to hide). I also set it with the same powder I used before.

For my third trial, it did not settle on my scars, did not cling on the sides of my nose, and did not disappear! It still didn't give me the coverage that I was promised, I didn't think it made my skin look great, but at least it applied and stayed better. I honestly didn't find anything special about this foundation.

So much high hopes, sad that it didn't work for me. :(

Here's a First Impression video I did for this foundation:
