Hair Woes or DIY: Salvaging Brassy Hair

Three weeks ago, I went to a salon to get my hair Ombre'd. I know the trend is so 2011, but I've always wanted to do that to my hair but wasn't ~brave enough to actually do it.

Then I was.

It went bad.

Very very bad.

My hair turned very, very brassy. Obviously, it will be brassy because it was bleached just once, then I was done. Apparently, that was it for my Ombre experience. Also: please look at that straight motherfudging line from my dark hair to the bleached part. No gradient whatsoever!

I turned to Instagram to ask for help, and Bea of TheDalagaProject recommended that I use an ash toner. I don't know where to get one in the Philippines, so in my desperation, I just bought the SYOSS Medium Ash Blonde permanent hair color (Php250+) to dye over the brassy bottom half of my hair.

Apparently when it comes to this kind of hair disaster, applying an ash blonde color will negate the brassy tones in your hair. I made the decision to dye it a week after the bleaching process. I suppose if I'm going to ruin my hair - at least I'm ruining it little by little heh.

So anyway, I dyed. I conquer. Hooray.

I asked my Mom to put bits of the dye on the upper part of my hair so it would have a gradient effect. I was also happy to find that the color on top of my hair faded to a really nice brown shade that complimented my newly resurrected Ombre. (I had the upper part colored prior to my salon visit).

Lesson learned: don't go back to that salon el oh el.

Ironically, my hair feels a lot healthier now. I think it's the combination of all the hair products that I have been using recently.

1. Dove Nourishing Oil Care Shampoo alternate with MUJI Mild Shampoo
2. Human Heart Nature Clarifying Shampoo - I use this once a week just to get rid of the product  buildups on my hair. Prior to the Ombre, I actually use this shampoo as my everyday shampoo. I read somewhere that you shouldn't use this frequently on colored hair because it'll strip of the dye faster, so I stopped.
3. TRESemmé Keratin Infusing Conditioner - BEST THING IN THE WORLD. I use this as a deep conditioner (I leave it on for 5 mins, then rinse), and it works wonders for my hair! Never had my hair feel this soft and healthy!!
4. I ran out of my HG Alterna Bamboo Kendi Dry Oil Mist, so I bought Etude House Silk Scarf Serum as a temporary replacement. It doesn't work as well, but for a fraction of the price of the Alterna one, it'll do for now. It helps tame my frizzy hair (see first photo), and make my hair all shiny and ~nice.

Have you had any hair disasters lately? :)

  1. I used this too for dying my hair. The application was not practical at all :/ But I love the result. I wish it wouldn't fade so soon.
