Skincare Routine for Acne-prone Skin

Bare face

On good days (meaning when I stop sneaking gulps of milk or when I'm lucky with new products I'm testing), I look like this. You can't see it here but I still have acne scars, though thankfully, not as much as before. I've already told my acne story a few months back so you may already be familiar about it if you're a regular reader. (If not, I do suggest checking it out if you have the time!) My t-zone area is my favorite because I hardly ever get zits there anymore - such a miracle! I still battle the occasional zits on my cheeks. In fact, I just had 5 massive acne on both sides of my cheeks no thanks to Kiehl's Midnight Recovery Concentrate... yes, I already learned my lesson. My oily face isn't meant for face oils. I mean, I should have known right?

Anyway, on to my current skincare routine:

I have the simplest routine in the morning - facial wash & sunscreen. My favorite cleanser thus far is Avene Cleanance Soapless Gel Cleanser because it's really gentle and doesn't aggravate my acne. I used to buy it either on Amazon or my cousin who frequents Paris buys it for me. But luckily for me (/us) it's now available at selected Mercury Drug branches! After cleansing, I apply Belo Essentials Sun Expert for Face. I know, I know, don't laugh! It's Belo but so what! It's great - not sticky, not heavy and it doesn't make my face greasy. Also: cheap. Make of that what you will.

My evening routine is a little more extensive. After removing my makeup using either Bioderma or Bifesta, I cleanse using Jack Black Pure Clean Daily Facial Cleanser. I love it because although it's also very gentle, it's strong enough to remove traces of makeup that my remover didn't get. I use Soap and Glory Scrub Your Nose In It twice a week to gently exfoliate my t-zone area. It also doubles up as a mask so it's great for the rest of my face. Toner! Ahh, toner.. I never used to understand its importance, but I do now! For that, I use Kiehl's Blue Astringent Herbal Lotion. Not only does it heals active spots, it also dries those up so much quicker.

For my acne scars, I undergo derma-stamping every 2 weeks (I'm on my 5th session). Aside from that, I also use Kiehl's Clearly Corrective Dark Spot Solution just to speed things up. I don't know if I'm just imagining it, but I swear it works! .. I think it does anyway. For active zits, I swear by Malin + Goetz Acne Treatment. It's amazing - click here to read my more intensive review.

What's your skincare routine? :)

  3. That Avene cleanser sounds lovely and gentle! I still swear by my Dove 3 in 1 cleanser - though in the mornings I just wash my face with cold water.
